Latest from the government as of 6pm Sunday, March 29th


We are officially in Phase 2 which happened several days ago.

(officially ramping up by the government to contain the virus. All public and private non-essential services, events, and offices closed. Citizens told to stay home)


Current Covid19 status in Yucatán


🦠 There were 187 possible cases

🦠25 are continuing to be analyzed

🦠121 have been ruled out


🦠 41 confirmed cases of COVID19 in Yucatán and the age range is 17-78 years old.


--11 cases are mild they are being monitored by the State Health officials

--10 case is hospitalized in serious but stable condition and is in isolation.

--20 have recovered and exhibit no symptoms and are no longer sick or contagious.


**There is one Yucatecan woman who was tested while she was away in Canada after having symptoms. She flew back to Yucatan and the results of the test from Canada were positive. She can not be included in the Mexican statistics because she was tested abroad. She remains in a serious but stable condition in isolation.

BEACHES: The beaches of Yucatan are CLOSED to the public.  IF YOU HAVE A VACATION HOUSE OR RESIDE at the beach you will be allowed to be at your house providing you prove that the house is yours. However, you will have to stay there throughout the quarentine and only one person will be allowed to leave the house to get food and supplies. You will not be able to go back and forth from Merida to the beach.



IF YOU NEED TO GO TO STORE, one person only should go and each person should keep a distance of 6 feet between other people. When you get home all products should be disinfected and hands washed, body showered, clothes changed. 

**Please follow protocol and DO NOT go out to get yourself tested by private clinics for Covid19. It is important that we all follow the protocol at this time to keep everyone safe.

DO NOT GO to the hospital, FIRST, call the Yucatan State Secretariat of Health at

800 Yucatan (982 2826)  operators speak Spanish, Maya, and English


You will first hear speaking in Spanish and then Maya and then it will say for English press 9 so just be patient and wait until the end or just Press 9. Then you may or may not be transferred to an English speaker. IF NOT SAY: INGLES POR FAVOR, NO HABLO ESPANOL. And they will transfer you to an English speaker right away. (I and some others in the community are doing tests runs of the call service)


If you cannot get to an English speaker and you have symptoms you can call:

EME RED Hospitalaria 927 9200 and they will further assist you. DO NOT GO TO THE HOSPITAL, call and they will instruct you on what to do.

If you have Covid 19 and your symptoms are manageable you will be quarantined at home and closely monitored by medical professionals from the Yucatan Secretariat of Health for 14 days.


If you have Covid19 and require hospitalization, the medical professional that goes to your house will determine that you need to be transferred to one of the 3 Hospitals of the Secretaria de Salud (Secretariat of Health), ISSSTE (Institute for the Security and Social Services for Workers) or IMSS (Institute of Social Security) located in Merida, Yucatan. These are the only hospitals that are being used to handle Covid19 and while hospitalized you will be monitored constantly and assisted by the top physicians of the State.

⚠️ If you have an emergency OTHER than Covid 19 

You can call EME Red Hospitalaria at 927 9200 and they have a fully functioning emergency room. Or call your medical professional for advice. At this time we encourage all to stay home if at all possible. Please call your doctors first to get specific instructions on whether or not it is safe to go to their clinic.
