The donut scene in Mérida is definitely ruled by Krispy Kreme with its presence in shopping malls and factory on Prolongacion Montejo. But if you’re a donut fan and you fancy something a bit less Americanised then head over to Krazy Donuts at Plaza las Americas.
The donuts here are incredible. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything quite like it. The size of the donuts range from the large to the positively ridiculous. One can choose from donuts in the cabinet or they can be prepared for you in less than 5 minutes.
● The doniza – a donut with pizza toppings of pepperoni and cheese
● The grenuda – a donut to rival the marquesita with Nutella and grated cheese
● There’s also donuts topped with all your favourite chocolate candy; Ferrero rocher, kitkat, kisses, oreos, the list goes on.
Krazy Donuts is just outside the shopping mall so it’s a great post cinema snack (or simply cinema snack if you fancy sneaking them in). It’s practically a very colourful shed on the side of the road with some stalls and lights. It’s a very hipster set up and it works. You don’t need a lot of space to sit and eat a donut and the tables and chairs (or logs and benches) provided are wonderfully sufficient.
